SPORTS STORYTELLING

Yaw prides himself on telling stories beyond the field of play. Of course, the X's and O's and stats will always be in a sportscast or report. However, telling a deeper story beyond that is what Yaw attempts to do with every package he does. All of the packages seen below were entirely shot, produced, edited, and voiced by him. Yaw sees the audience in three pools: the hardcore sports fan, the casual sports fan, and the person who couldn't care less about sports. His goal to his tell a story that resonates with all three groups.

SPORTS HOSTING

Yaw is the host of 'GameDay Nation,' a three-and-a-half-hour 'NFL Redzone' type show covering high school football. Alongside two analysts, Yaw is the point guard for a wide range of analysis surrounding high school football is Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. This is Yaw's first show hosting. He also hosts 'Sidekicks,' which covers the best of high school soccer in Northwest Ohio, as well as, in the spring, 'Baseball With Bruce,' covering the best in high school baseball in Ohio.

ON-SITE REPORTING

There's nothing like being out in the field to give live or pre-recorded reports. When out in the field, Yaw aims to provide engaging recaps and insight through the voices of coaches and players after each game. For the fall of 2025, Yaw is primarily covering Toledo football.

GETTING CREATIVE

In a nutshell, when we anchor in-studio, we are all just reading words off a machine, scrolling through our script. But in this ever-changing industry, how can we continue to make our content engaging for viewers, whether they are casual or hardcore sports fans? While Yaw doesn't have all the answers nor is he an expert, he tries to use creative elements to keep the viewer engaged. All the segments below are fully produced by Yaw, including the creation of graphics, planning the segment, and writing the script.

SPORTS ANCHORING

Yaw co-hosts 'Sports Nightly,' BCSN's flagship show. The 30-minute highlights and analysis show features sports around Northwest Ohio, Southeast Michigan, and beyond. Yaw sometimes solo anchoring (as displayed below) with his aim, regardless of the anchor lineup, to provide an engaging, worthwhile program that leaves the viewer wanting more.

SPORTS INTERVIEWING

What would the viewer want to know? How do you get an interview subject to open up? How do you humanize these athletes and coaches with the weight of the world on their shoulders? That's what Yaw looks to answer in every interview he does. In some of these interviews, it's a straight up sitdown, but in others, it's more interactive with a game being at the forefront (like Connect 4). All of this, makes for engaging content that Yaw hopes the viewer can feel through each interactions.
